Licensing Policy
Length of License
If you purchase the full version of Ancestral Quest, we follow the old traditional software practice in that you purchase the version of the program. You can then use that version for as long as you wish (there is no annual fee or subscription). So, when you purchase Ancestral Quest 16 you can use it for forever, if you want. Your version will not 'stop working' as a family database management program. However, if you make use of the program's abilities to connect with third-party services or websites, those abilities may cease to function.
Updates and Upgrades
We are continuing to improve Ancestral Quest, and we regularly offer both updates and upgrades to the program.
Within a major version, all minor updates are free. For example, if you have version 16, you can update from build 16.0.2 to build 16.0.9 to obtain the enhancements and bug fixes, for free.
However, once we release AQ version 17, you would need to purchase an upgrade if you wanted to go to that new version and keep access to all of the premium features.
Multiple Computers/Platforms
Our current Licensing Policy for Ancestral Quest is rather lenient and generous, and is a one per household per platform license.
Windows Systems
Once you purchase an Ancestral Quest for Windows Registration Key, we allow you to use that same Windows registration key on all the Windows computers that are regularly used by the members of your household. So, you can install AQ onto your additional Windows computers, as long as you are the primary users of those computers, and you remove the program should you no longer be using any of those systems.
You can use the CD, if you have it, to install the program onto both computers, or you can download the program from our website onto each computer (or download it once to a flash drive and run the installer from that flash drive on each computer). You will just need to enter your Windows Registration Key into the program on each Windows computer.
Macintosh Systems
A purchase of an Ancestral Quest for Macintosh Registration Key allows you to use that same AQ for Mac registration key on all the MacOS computers that are regularly used by the members of your household. So, you can install AQ onto your additional MacOS computers, as long as you are the primary users of those computers, and you remove the program should you no longer be using any of those systems.
Households with Mixed computer platforms
The Ancestral Quest Registration Keys are not interchangeable between Windows and Mac systems. So, if your household has one or more Windows systems as well as one or more Mac systems, you would need to purchase both a Windows and a Mac Registration key. Or if you switch from one platform to the other, you would need to purchase a Registration Key for the other platform.
You do not have to pay full price for both platforms, however. Once you have paid 'full price' for any version of AQ, we consider you a loyal customer, and all future purchases of any version of AQ can be done so as an 'upgrade.' (At Incline, our use of the word Upgrade on the purchase screens does not always mean you are upgrading from one version to another of the same platform, but is to basically let you purchase additional licensed versions of AQ at a discount, as all 'Upgrades' are at a reduced price.)
