Ancestral Quest Updates

Overview

Ancestral Quest follows the old standard pricing concept that you purchase a license for a particular version of the program. You can use that version for as long as you wish to do so.

There is also a standard in the software industry that, for the version of a program that you purchase, any updates (subreleases or builds) for that version of the program are made available for free. So, for Ancestral Quest, within a major version, such as 2.0, 2.1, 11.0, 12.0, 14.0, 15.0, 16.0, Incline Software provides the updates which are minor versions, available free to users who are licensed to use the major version.

Then, when a new version of the program is released, registered users can purchase the upgrade to the newer version at a reduced cost. Ancestral Quest follows this practice, as well.

As an example of the above concepts, the last build of AQ 3.0 was 3.0.41. The last build of AQ 2002 (version 10.0) was 10.0.19. If you were licensed to use AQ 3.0, then you could upgrade to build 3.0.41 at no additional cost, but to upgrade to a newer major release, you would be charged a fee.

Re-download/Update your Software

If you had a hard drive crash, or purchased a new computer, or for any other reason, you need to re-download your version of the program, use the appropriate Download Link in the upper-right portion of this page to get the most current update of that version of AQ.

Important Note

In spite of the above statements, which are correct, Ancestral Quest 15 was very unique in the way that upgrades were handled.

If you had previously purchased an AQ 14 or AQ 12.x Registration Key, you could download and install AQ 15, and all of the features you have had access to within your paid version of AQ 14/12.x would still be available in AQ 15 with your older Registration Key, and you found new improvements and enhancements of version 15. You would also see the new premium features (items in menus and other options), but were not able to use those major new features of AQ 15 unless you purchased an upgrade to a version 15 Registration Key.

With Ancestral Quest 16, this soft upgrade is no longer available. If you want to continue to use the premium features of your older version you paid for in the new version 16, you will need to purchase the upgrade to AQ 16. Upgrading Your Software

The current version of Ancestral Quest is 16.

If you have an older version of Ancestral Quest, you are entitled to purchase the upgrade to the latest version at a discounted price.

If you are not sure what version you have, go to the menu bar of Ancestral Quest, then select Help, then About Ancestral Quest.... The screen that appears will tell you which version of Ancestral Quest you are running.
