New FamilySearch Made Clear and Easy

Whether you are a user of PAF 5 or of Ancestral Quest, or are new to genealogy, AQ 12.1 will help you quickly, easily and intuitively synchronize your data with the family tree of New FamilySearch.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints thought so highly of Ancestral Quest, that in 1999 they licensed the Ancestral Quest code and created PAF from it. PAF 5 is essentially an altered, older version of Ancestral Quest. If you are a PAF user, you'll feel right at home by upgrading to AQ 12.1, or by using AQ 12.1 as an add-on product to use with PAF 5.

Ancestral Quest is the easiest software to use for the LDS community. How can we claim this? First of all, AQ is simply easy to use. Secondly, most LDS users of genealogy software are already using PAF 5. As a result, they already know AQ. There is no learning curve for most LDS users. (Well, they will want to learn the new features, but they are already familiar with the basics of the program.)

FamilySearch Certification

Ancestral Quest was the first desktop family tree program to be certified to Access, Update and Sync with New FamilySearch (NFS). It is very easy to use, and has received an award for its completeness. AQ is now also Ordinance Reservation and Ordinance Request certified, which means you can reserve ordinances and create Family Ordinance Requests (FORs). AQ is PAF Add-in certified, so PAF users can be assured that AQ will directly work with their PAF file. AQ has also been Helper certified, which means that even PAF and AQ users who do not yet have access to NFS can take their database to a Family History Center or Ward Family History Consultant, and have someone with access sign in to help them. Ancestral Quest 12.1 received the 2009 FamilySearch Software Award for Most Comprehensive Syncing in the Desktop Syncing or Tree-Cleaning category.

PAF Users

Ancestral Quest is a FamilySearch certified PAF Add-in. It has more tools to supplement PAF than any other add-in product. (See Comparison.)

To use AQ as an add-in, simply download and install, then go to PAF's "Tools" menu to run it. Look for the "FamilySearch" menu in AQ for the options to sync your data with new FamilySearch.

AQ uses your PAF 5 file directly -- no need to convert, import or export your data. Because PAF 5 was derived from an earlier version of AQ, the screens and reports will feel very familiar to you.
