Ancestral Quest IGI Search From a Filtered List

 

Overview of this Tutorial:

 

1.  Use the “Advanced Filtering” feature of Ancestral Quest to create a specialized list consisting of your deceased ancestors who are missing LDS ordinances.

2.  Check the IGI Online from this specialized list using Ancestral Quest.

3.  Update your family files with the new information as discovered.

4.  Continue your search to the next individual in your list.

 

 

Once you open your program, you should be at this screen:

Step 1)       Go to “Search”, scroll down to “Advanced Filter/Focus” and click on it to open up the “Search for Individual” screen.

Step 2)       Click on Define to bring up the ‘Field Filtering” Screen.

Step 3)       With the Field Filtering Screen open, Scroll down on the left hand side to “Any Ordinance Date”  and double click.

Step 4)       Using the drop down menu, change the “Any Ordinance Date Field Filter” to “Does Not Exist” and click “OK”.

Step 5)       This will bring “Any Ordinance Date” over to the “Current Filter” screen.  Next, click on “And” to put this under the “Any Ordinance Date”.

Step 6)       Using the (1) scroll bar, go to “Deceased”.  Double click (2) “Deceased” which brings up “Deceased Filter Screen”, make sure the “Is” has a dot in it and click (3) “OK”.

Step 7)       Now click “OK” to activate the actual search through your records.

Step 8)       Results of the filtered search are now in the “Search for Individual Screen” with this “>>” in front of individuals who have missing ordinance information and are deceased.  Check the box that says “Show Results Only”.  This is the list that you will work with to check the IGI.

Step 9)       Here is the results and your new IGI search list!  You may want to search in family groups.  For purposes of this tutorial we will start with Agnes Simpson, RIN # 202.  Highlight this individual, ***Click on “Edit” to open the “Edit Individual” screen.***

Step 10)     With this screen open, click on the “IGI” button next to the LDS ordinance data to bring up the “Search on FamilySearch.org” screen.

Skip to Step 13 if you are already signed on to the FamilySearch.org web site!

 

Step 11)     Click “Sign On to IGI” to log into the “familysearch.org” web site. (Please note that this tutorial assumes you are already connected to the Internet.)

Step 12)     Sign on with your login and password, reduce this window by clicking on the “Maximize/Reduce” button at the top right.  If you need a refresher on how to size your screens CLICK HERE.

Step 13)     Click on the “Search IGI” button to conduct the actual search.

Step 14)     Review the “Search Results” on the left side of your screen to see if there is a match.  You can choose to check just one of the matches or all four to see what information you might need to update in your own family files.

 

 

Congratulations! You have just completed the first search in your IGI Search List.

Step 16)     To conduct another search from your list, click on “Close” to bring you back to the “Edit Individual” Screen.

Step 17)     Click on “Cancel” to bring you back to your “IGI Search List”.

Step 18)     Highlight the next individual and click on “Edit” to bring up the “Edit Individual”  Go to Step 11 to conduct the new search. To check for sealing ordinances click on the “Marriage Button” to bring up the “Marriage” Screen.

Step 19      This is the “Marriage” screen. You can choose to do this search from here by following the

                  IGI links as before.
